“she let me wear my chain and my turtleneck sweater.”

Until a few months ago, high-necked jumpers as a wardrobe staple were reserved for afro’d white guys and your great-aunt Doris.

In a blink-and-you’ll-miss it moment, they’ve climbed the must have ladder to perch with ripped denim, strappy heels and fine rose-gold jewellery. I, for one, am totally kicking myself for not cleaning out my local Salvos at the turn, but as a less than fashionable soul I really had no idea that any of this was going on until they were everywhere.

Just for you other vogue-phobics, here’s a bit of a breakdown on why they’re the best thing ever. Please note, I literally bought one yesterday. I really am fashion illiterate, but better late than never right?

Hugs for your neck. Seriously. Turtle-necks are the perfect Monday staple, because it’s like having a little fluffy monkey cuddling your neck all day- you will feel insanely loved up, and how could you not?

No more makeup-lines! If you’re anything like me, you’re used to having an almost permanently ever-so-slightly-too-dark face in the winter. It seems that my Priceline foundations don’t cater for being one of Casper the ghost’s cousins, and I really don’t have the odd $90 to fork out for the good stuff. Up until now, I’ve relied on scarves and terrible lighting to cover my shame- now it’s just throw on a jumper and off you go!

Look so chic. Baggy jumpers with a slight cowl neck are wonderful because no matter who you are, they will make you look a little bit fancy- especially if they’re black. I have a wonderful soft knit-jumper which my boyfriend says makes me look like a “french artist”, and if that’s not a win then I really don’t know what is.

Easy as pie. Okay, I have to admit that this one has nothing to do with pie but it does have to do with getting stuff done really quickly, which means a little longer lunch, which means pie for dessert. So. High-necked jumpers go so well with so many different styles, that they’re pretty much a shoo-in. Jeans lover? Great, pair with a grey cable-knit jumper and some flats and you’re good to go. Pencil-skirts a must? Opt for a longer style, heels and tights and you will look so fresh that you could be hiding a pyjama top underneath and we would never know.

Love,
